Homemade Applesauce

Today I’m sharing with you my method for making homemade applesauce. It’s so easy and my kids love to eat it warm off the stove. Recently a friend was able to get bushels of apples at a really good price, so I got 2 bushels and they’ve been sitting in my fridge waiting on me to do something with them.

20 Apples Peeled, cored and roughly cut

2 lemons juiced

3/4 cup of sugar

1 Tablespoon of cinnamon

Place prepared apples and lemon juice in a large pot, I used golden delicious apples that were very juicy so I did not need to add any water to the pot. Bring up to a boil and then reduce head to a simmer. Cook down until apples are the desired consistency. It usually take 45 minutes to an hour. Then you can add the desired amount of sugar and cinnamon. The sugar and cinnamon is completely optional and best when added to taste. This applesauce can be water bath canned or frozen for longer storage. Ours usually gets eaten up pretty fast in the fridge.

I hope you try out this recipe and that your family enjoys it as much as we do. It would be great for any meal of the day and is especially soothing for someone who is feeling under the weather.

I use lot of spices and prefer to buy them in bulk from Frontier herbs. They have great quality herbs and you can save a lot of money buying in bulk. If you don’t think you’ll use them up in a few years you may want to go in with a few friends and split the cost.
